What Is It Like On a Photo Shoot?

Here is a quick image taken to test the light and settings on the camera, as the girls and I came up over the hill on a recent photo shoot.  The sun set and exploded color across the sky!!  We have been having the most beautiful sunsets I've seen since living here.  I've been told conditions are right for those sunsets to continue for awhile.  If you would like to schedule a portrait session with me, give me a call at (808) 357-2789.  I will be happy to schedule you into a date while you are here on Maui.

My Mari turns 11 this month.  Everyone is fascinated by her unique beauty.  She is sweet and kind, as well as beautiful.  She's part Tongan, meaning part Polynesian and part Scottish, so - Oh boy - there is that side to her that means don't cross her or make her mad!!  She is learning that she is a fantastic writer, an amazing cook.  She is a stunning actress and sings beautifully.  She keeps life very interesting, and we love her to death!  -  P.S.  She's also the romantic peeping tom from the post below this one!  :)

My daughter and I went for a walk one night, on the beach, and found that we had hit high tide and that the wind was blowing pretty good, so we decided to cut our walk short. We passed this couple and I could see that he was pacing up and down the beach. We climbed up the hill to the park, to get out of the wind and I was testing out a shot, when Mari came up the hill! "Oh my goodness!! Oh my goodness!! That couple that we saw! They just got engaged!! Isn't that the most romantic thing?!! To get engaged on the beach!! That's so romantic," she said in all her cute teenageriness!  Kids can be fun and adorable, when they surprise you.  I didn't know Mari liked romantic things at all.  I laughed and said, "Are you kidding! You should have told me sooner! I want to see,"  We didn't want to ruin their moment, because they thought they were almost entirely alone on the beach; and in fact they were, but I did get this!! So in honor of my little game I have going on, here's a Seen On the Beach Moment as two Humans in Hawaii get engaged to one another!! :)

Big Island Landscape Photography, Hawaii Landscape Photography, Maui Landscape Photography

I was on vacation on the Big Island last week. Siaosi arranged for me to have a nice vacation at a resort along the Kona Coastline along a bay further down from where we usually stay. I sat and watched the sunset every night, while the kids swam in the pool. I wasn't sure I had gotten any good images of the sunsets we had that week, because I'm used to being closer to the surf than I was on those deck chairs. Each island is uniquely different, while still feeling like Hawaii. On Maui, the surrounding islands trap the sun and the clouds, so the sunset is influenced by these land masses, which are almost always in the background of our images. On the Big Island, especially where I was, the sea is deep and stretches out to Maui County and those islands I spoke of. They trap the clouds for the Big Island, back in the distance, so you get stronger, more beautiful sunsets on the Big Island. You can imagine my happy surprise when I discovered that!! LOL!! I did some research before this trip, and sort of had an idea, so I really wanted to take a family portrait in front of one of these bad boys, but there wasn't time. The Tongans are very serious about their temple trips, and we like that about them.

Many thanks, mahalo nui loa and muchos gracious to the young gymnast who lent me her talents for a Humans in Hawaii moment on the beach tonight. She wanted an image of her doing cartwheels into the setting sun, and here it is! May you enjoy the rest of your vacation on Maui.
